DINE IN HELL from Ravenna that hides behind the hardcore/metal label; and while that’s true, it’s only a part of what this album really contains. When you broaden your perspective, there’s much more to observe: first and foremost, there’s a gothic sonic foundation, in the literal sense of the term, which is particularly well-executed and adds meaning to the individual tracks. There are atmospheric openings (in the title track); more grandiose and refined moments, as in “Circle Of Crypts,” one of the best tracks; and even evocative acoustic interludes (such as the interlude “Accept the Goods”).
Then, there’s an entire framework that characterizes the modernity of the compositions: syncopated breaks, intricate rhythms, stop ‘n go patterns, noticeable right from the introduction; or in “Siberia,” alternating with captivating mid-tempo grooves, as demonstrated well in the opening of “Until N.0.”
Naturally, all of this is infused with and energized by hardcore blasts—some more controlled, others utterly merciless (“Echo,” “The Biggest Infection,” “Embrace Your Existence…”).
