I got their 2006 promo, last year, when the dudes handed it out for free to the kids at Good Riddance’s show in Milan so, I partly knew what to expect from this great up and coming ensemble hailing from Roma.

But, I can say without any sorta of doubt that JET MARKET’s new record goes way over my warm expectations and hopes. The four Romans formed back in 1998 while at high school and originally called themselves as Deafening Silence. Over the following years, the band faced many line-up changes and released the first demos and a full-length ‘Il mondo è impazzito’. Moving ahead with their project and taking in new sound influences the dudes decided to change the moniker in Jet Market in 2001, self-releasing their first full-length ‘Everyday Casualties’ in 2002 and the ‘Freedom Slaves’ EP dated 2003 on Indelirium/Poor Boy records.

Well, long story short ‘THE REVERSE OF THE MEDAL’ is their second effort for Italian Indelirium records and …no words, what a album! The energy just pours through the speakers. 13 songs, plus instrumental intro, of modern bouncing high-speed melodic skate HC punk that mix-up influences from mid 90’s melodicore Cali and Swedish scenes alike, adding emo-screamo core, crazy blast beats with a personal edge to it. What we get here is continuous tempo changes, breakdowns tough as nails, crazy lead and bass guitars lines, moshing parts, tons of melody and alternate vocals that range from clean to screaming to even growl. Lyrically, there are plenty of socio-political and thought provoking references here.

‘The reverse of the medal’ really got a strong recording. The album was recorded at Hell Smell by Gomez ( bass ) and Alex ( drums, vocals ) but playing a very key factor in all of this is the mastering done by Alan Douches at famed West WestSide Music, Boston MA ( Converge, Mastodon, Unearth and tons more under his belt ). The guys took maniacal care of every single aspect of their offering putting together a good artwork and layouts (courtesy of Emiliano, boss at Indelirium Rec …by the way, really cool the photoshoped image of a skater who brandishes a Gibson SG put next to the lyrics of ‘Evolution doesn’t mean stop playing skatepunk’ ). This is really a great melodicore record played with an ample dose of energy, refreshing exuberance, first class musicianship ( I won’t stop saying that their rhythmic section kicks ass! ) and tons of attitude.

If you want to hear some real shit, pick this up. Time to hit the half-pipe dudes.
