Altra buona uscita targata Indelirium Records; questa volta si abbandona il filone hardcore melodico per approdare in quel del pop-punk.
Non è la prima volta che un gruppo di questo genere provenga dalla fredda Europa (come ad esempio gli svedesi Holiday With Maggie); i Multiball sono invece Sloveni e propongono uno stile che assomiglia parecchio a quello di gruppi come i già citati Holiday With Maggie o i nostrani Staly Fish.
Canzoni molto melodiche che cercano di attirare l\'ascoltatore facendo perno molto sul lato emozionale; nelle ultime canzoni si avverte anche un po\' più di grinta, facendo scivolare la definizione del genere verso qualcosa come "punk-rock".
Buone qualità nonostante sia il primo vero full-lenght per questa band, che però pecca in fatto di originalità.
Non che si tratti di un cattivo disco, anzi, canzoni come After Yoy, My Friend e There You Go! sono meritevoli, ma il giudizio potrebbe essere stato di gran lunga migliore se nel disco fosse stata inserita qualche traccia di personalità in più.
Rimaniamo in attesa del prossimo album in cui, si suppone, il gruppo dimostrerà maggiore esperienza.

Editi dalla Indelirium Records ecco i Multiball, combo di quattro elementi formatosi nel 2001 in un piccolo paese della Slovenia. E\' raro trovare punk band provenienti da certe nazioni, ma questo sta a significare ancora una volta che, sarò retorico, della buona musica la si può benissimo trovare anche in luoghi quasi inimmaginabili. Alle spalle hanno pochissimi anni di carriera, infatti prima di questo disco hanno realizzato solo un demo di quattro brani nel gennaio del 2003, oltre ad aver partecipato con singoli pezzi a due compilation sempre nello stesso anno.
Questo dunque per i Multiball è il primo tentativo nel confrontarsi con la realizzazione di un full-length: "At Last" è composto da 11 canzoni, il genere si pone tra un pop punk ascoltabile ed un discreto punk rock; un sound che potrebbe ricordare a tratti quello dei Donots, ma forse i quattro sloveni risultano un attimino più aggressivi grazie a qualche sporadico riff abbastanza diretto.
Dopo l\'open-track "Intro", arriva "After You My Friend", tipico pezzo pop punk nel quale sono riconoscibilissime le influenze portate dallo stile californiano: molta melodia e ritornello facilmente ricordabile. Stesso discorso vale per la title-track "At Last", mentre risultano essere più veloci e tendenti al punk rock pezzi come "Rejected Suggestion" e "Today Or Tomorrow". La seconda parte del disco la si può benissimo definire più punk rock, dove velocità e ritmi serrati fanno da padroni con pezzi discretamente belli come "There You Go!" e "Downtown Party". Il disco è chiuso della malinconica "The Last Song", classico pezzo lento che non manca in ogni disco pop punk, con un pezzo iniziale di chitarra che assomiglia molto all\'inizio di "Every Breath You Take" dei Police.
Dunque dopo l\'ondata di pop punk dagli States anche l\'Europa ultimamente propone diversi gruppi che tentano di crearsi una propria identità all\'interno di questo panorama: tali band però tendono troppo spesso ad assomigliare a quelle d\'oltreoceano, ma bisogna comunque dare atto a questi quattro ragazzi sloveni che realizzano un album per niente male, anche se sicuramente non resterà tra i migliori di quest\'anno. Il tempo dirà quali siano esattamente le capacità e le risorse musicali dei Multiball, attendendo il prossimo disco per potere dare un giudizio più definito di questa band, fermo restando che "At Last" resta un discreto lavoro.

So what´s this now here? Slovenias MULTIBALL are coming along with their latest release, which is called “At Last” and will be released by In Delirium Records. The guys here play a nice Indiependent sound. Mid tempo with melodies meets clean and emotional vocals. All with no cries in it. Mostly very catchy but sometimes it gots to much Pop stuff in it. And this is the huge problem. Sometimes they sound like a Mtv band not like a good Pop Punk band. Most of the 11 songs sound the same, that´s not so cool at all. Maybe MULTIBALL is not a bad band at all but this record is not so much my one. If you are into the last Jimmy Eat World record and the last one from The Ataris just check them out. Maybe you will like it.

Sloveni folgorati da Green Day e relativa prole. Poco altro da dire su questa band emergente di Celje (proprio la cittadina in cui di recente è stata sconfitta l\'Italia di Lippi), che svolge irreprensibilmente il proprio compitino di pop-punk-rock di tendenza moderna e ultramoderna.
Le canzoni sono generalmente piacevoli da ascoltare e solo l\'inspiegabile e discutibilissima uscita di There you go! (un\'imbarazzante filastrocca punk che si sarebbe potuta evitare con grande gioia di tutti) turba leggermente l\'atmosfera di un disco fino a quel punto tutt\'altro che malvagio.
In ogni caso, se vi piacciono gruppi come Sum 41, Ataris, Good Charlotte, Gamits, Sugarcult e Yellowcard, i Multiball entreranno sicuramente nelle vostre grazie.

I opened this cd with the idea it would sound like a demo or some horrible recordings, as the layout of the booklet is ugly and boring. And than these four guys from Slovenia began playing and I was knocked upside down. Great punkrock, which touches pop and emo at times but never losing the sharp edge and the punk foundation. Singer, guitar player Gregor is the best card in the Multiball deck for sure, his No Fun At All meets Craig’s Brother vocals are so amazing. And the sound quality is amazing and gives the band the possibility to display all they can, and boy, yes they can. They can do about all you would need from a modern punkrock band. With all music I listen to bands have got to have their heart poured into melodies and I am sure if this band would be able to play some festivals (especially the bigger fests in Western Europe), they would be huge. These shows would give the band the opportunity to get the sound as tight as possible. Conquering the US would just be a formality after that.

It’s not every day that a package from Slovenia drops through your letterbox, and it’s certainly not every day that you discover a quality punk rock band from somewhere you least expect it. While Multiball has a pretty shitty name, the music they play is far from it. If this is the state of Slovenian punk rock, then we should all consider moving out there – Multiball’s Millencolin meets MxPx melodic skate punk is slick, fun and very, very good.
The band go back to 2001 and have put out three independent demos, featured on two compilations and have now secured a deal with Panika Records, a Slovenian label. Quite how they found out about Punktastic is a different matter – but I’m glad they did. The guitars are poppy as hell, and Gregor’s vocals are reminiscent of Millencolin’s in that they’re very Americanised, yet keep a foreign edge to them. The opening salvo blast of ‘Intro (Multiball Hits Your Town)’ is a sonic blast that really makes the ears prick up. If I’m honest I wasn’t really expecting the band to be quite this good.
But this good is exactly what they are. It’s a tried and tested formula that Multiball stick to, and they don’t leave the battered path of skate punk goodness, but this is a record that does the simple things extremely well. ‘Today or Tomorrow’ features guitar riffs that Strung Out or Bigwig crave, while the drums pound away, while ‘At Last!’ maintains the vocal harmonies and melodies. The production on this record is huge, making the record stand out even more. ‘There You Go!’ reminds me of ‘Life In General’-era MxPx, which I know will have many of you salivating at the mouth, while ‘Downtown Party’ is even better.
I guess Multiball don’t push any envelopes, but then there’s no real need to. They have fun, they do the simple things well and they rock the fuck out. When the sun shines and you need a pick me up, there’s nothing better than some slick melodic punk rock – and Multiball can satisfy your every need. Check them out, you won’t regret it.
